Qualcomm Technologies has demonstrated a new platform on a test track in France enabling vehicles to dynamically charge while in motion. The firm’s dynamic electric vehicle charging (DEVC) solution is based on its Halo wireless EV charging technology which can charge a vehicle at up to 20Kw at around 100 km/h speeds

The dynamic charging demo took place on the Fabric test track at near Paris with two Renault Kangoo vehicles. Fabric is a €9 million initiative, funded in part by the EU, looking into the technological feasibility, economic viability, and socio-environmental sustainability of wireless DEVC.

Qualcomm believes Halo, which delivers wireless charging via kit embedded in roadways, will make it possible to charge on the go on public roads, theoretically providing cars with a limitless range.

The company says the trial has enabled it “to really push the boundaries of the possible and outline our vision for future urban mobility”.
