London can boast more tech talent than any other European city

London can boast more tech talent than any other European city with its 418,000 professional developers, according to research from Stack Overflow. And the number of developers in the UK capital has spiked 11% over the last year with some of the world’s largest tech firms announcing long-term investments in the London.

In addition, Stack Overflow finds that London ranks third globally in terms of concentration of developers, with only San Francisco (661,000) and New York (432,000) able to outgun it.

Despite Brexit, there’s little sign that the city’s tech growth will stall in the near-term. Last year, Apple unveiled a £9 billion project for a new London HQ at the Battersea Power Station development, while Google has announced £1 billion of spend in a new headquarters at King’s Cross. Plus Snap is opening an international hub in the city, while Amazon wants to develop 600,000 sq. ft. head office in Shoreditch, hiring 5,000 staff. More recently Ford announced it was opening a mobility lab at the Here East hub to develop transport solutions for Europe.

“London is a great place to innovate and is a melting pot of highly skilled talent, which is why we have a long-term commitment to the capital,” says Doug Gurr, UK Country Manager, Amazon. “Our new Shoreditch head office will allow us to continually innovate on behalf of our customers, enable small businesses to export around the world, and attract the best and brightest talent from the tech industry.”
