Intel deploys tech in sports

Intel is deploying cutting edge technology including virtual reality, 360-degree video, artificial intelligence, drones and additional ‘silicon solutions’ to support the Olympics in a deal running through to 2024. The company says home TV viewers will get a ‘front-row seat’ to the games and be able choose from many different viewing points.

The move follows a recently announced three-year deal with Major League Baseball to use VR tech to broadcast live games, with audiences able to choose between different VR angles.

Last month, Intel announced that it was deploying new tech for the International Cricket Council Champions Trophy, including advanced pitch analysis using a drone, a bat swing sensor to provide back-lift, bat speed and follow-through data, plus a game VR experience for fans at stadia.
