Uber's Indian Times
Uber has cut a marketing and distribution deal with Indian media giant the Times Group and is looking to get traction on its new partner’s online platforms. In addition, Times Group’s Times Internet unit will invest $24 million in the car-sharing outfit and plans to support its new ally with market insights and product localisations. Uber says India is its second-largest market.
“Marketing and distribution are a key part to our strategy for success in India and there is no better partner and platform for this than Times Internet with its print, radio, OOH and digital marketing platforms that reach over 200 million Indians,” says Uber.
However, life isn’t that easy for car sharers. India’s Information Technology ministry is set to shutter Uber and local rival, Ola for failing to comply with new licensing rules. The ministry may resort to blocking the two companies’ IP addresses to prevent users from making bookings.
