Eyeing MPK 20
Be ready for a first look at Facebook’s new MPK 20 flagship building from Frank Gehry on the social network’s Silicon Valley campus, courtesy of Fast Company. The ‘hacker’ warehouse is actually one big (430,000-square-foot) construction and will be home to almost one-third of Facebook's global team. And a park has been built atop MPK 20, replete with nine acres of grass, along with 400 trees and a half-mile walking circuit.
There’s more Silicon Big Tech architecture coming our way. Apple is building a giant spaceship campus designed by Norman Foster and coming in at some $5 billion. Google’s new Mountain View Campus has been designed by Bjarke Ingels and Heatherwick Studio. Rather than go for something otherworldly like Apple, Google will get a modular set-up so that buildings can be moved around as the company becomes involved in new activities and its requirements change. There will also be translucent canopies to cover buildings and outdoor spaces so that the climate can be managed. Google is all about control, you see.
