Amex seeking Silicon shine
American Express is upping its game in Silicon Valley with a technology hub in Palo Alto and a new roster of people focussing on developing its big data, cloud computing and mobile infrastructure capabilities. The company is moving into the former Zibibbo restaurant in downtown Palo Alto and aims to build a 200-strong team over time.
Amex says technology innovation is powering its digital transformation, with payments capabilities and platforms naturally at the core of things, and the company is looking to tap into the Silicon Valley coding pool.
The new hub will also be home the American Express Ventures team, which has been investing in early stage start-ups in digital commerce, financial inclusion and core capabilities such as data and analytics, security and servicing since 2011.
