Vinyl in the mix
Start-up watch: New music outfit Vinylised is planning to roll out a new vinyl pressing service to help independent music labels produce records. The business is based on crowdfunding, with labels slotting their catalogues on the Vinylised to raise cash to finance production. The company will handle the manufacturing process from mastering, through to pressing, while also adding shipping to the distribution mix.
Given the crowdfunding model, Vinylised does not need to ask for an upfront investment from indies, while clients are also able to choose their preferred minimum production runs. The outfit has already pushed out a number of releases, among them Titan Records’ Dubplate Series and Dutch producer Ganz’s Terrorhythm EP.
Vinyl production is on the up and up right now. Last month, Jack White opened his Third Man Pressing vinyl music facility featuring state-of-the-art presses in Detroit. With much vinyl output currently coming from decades-old machinery, new kit is welcome. Next-gen presses include the likes of Viryl Technologies’ Warm Tone record press. The Canadian company provides plant design services and turnkey solutions for producers.
