Tech UK

The UK has 1.64 million digital tech jobs and the growth rate of digital employment was more than double that of non-digital jobs between 2011 and 2015, according to the Tech Nation 2017 report from Tech City. And those digital tech workers have higher productivity levels per worker at a gross value-added of £103,000, compared to £50,000 for their non-digital counterparts.

The Tech Nation report reckons the UK is Europe’s digital tech skills hub, with the market home to eight of Europe’s top 20 universities. And London has almost twice as many source-code host Github users as Paris or Berlin. Plus, last year, 22,000 Meetups took place in the UK capital, nearly three times more than any other hub.

However, the UK isn’t all about London. Close to 70% of digital tech investment in 2016 was in regional clusters beyond the capital. These tech businesses attracted more than £4.6 billion in funding, with Cambridge and Edinburgh the most popular clusters for investment.
