London works smart

The Greater London Authority is partnering with London councils to develop a London Office of Technology and Innovation (LOTI) aimed at co-ordinating various organisations’ efforts to foster a culture of open innovation and co-production with the city’s tech sector. The Mayor Of London’s office says it views LOTI as a convening point ‘ensuring that London plays a role in an emerging ‘city-to-city’ market in smart technologies’.

The office believes there should be an ‘alignment of motivations’ in London in exploring emerging technology and setting out core business and citizen-focused requirements.  “Experience and learning in the form of use cases should be shared as widely as possible across coalitions of the willing and interested.”

The office adds that it wants LOTI to focus on adding new value – societal, economic, environmental and monetary– and to help rebalance discussions “that drift too readily and too often towards technology solutions in search of problems”.

The that end, it has launched a LOTI scoping exercise to find a partner to provide expertise in strategy, digital capability assessments, and organisational change with a view to establishing the business case and potential operating model for the proposed new outfit.
