VR goes Alien
Ridley Scott's RSA Films is rolling out a virtual reality unit, RSA VR, to develop VR, augmented reality and mixed media productions. The new outfit’s first output will be Scott’s sci-fi horror flick Alien: Covenant, which it is putting together with 20th Century Fox’s FoxNext and Technicolor-owned MPC.
Another projects in development include Blackbox, a virtual reality episodic series made with Endless VR. Also in the pipeline is a soon-to-be-announced VR documentary episodic series directed by Michael Muller.
“Having a dedicated standalone division underscores our commitment to immersive media in both the brand and entertainment space,” says RSA Films president Jules Daly. He adds that Scott has a long lineage as a pioneer in creative technology and that RSA’s roster of directors “understand the unique language of VR”.
“I think VR is one of the most exciting areas in the industry today, with potential to influence how we consume content for generations to come,” says Jen Dennis, new head of RSA VR.
