Apple’s svp of design, Jonathan Ive, is working with new hire Angela Ahrends, svp of retail, on a redesign of the company’s Apple stores. According to the New Yorker, the revamp will have a lot to do with the new Apple Watch, a piece of wearable kit coming to market later this year carrying a minimum $350 price tag, and featuring a digital crown touchscreen interface, no less.
Apple stores could come over all fashionista here. After all, Ahrends was poached from Burberry, while the company has also hired big exec hitters in the shape of Paul Deneve, ex-CEO of the Yves Saint Laurent Group, and Patrick Pruniaux, from TAG Heuer, an LVMH brand. Apparently, Ives has always wanted to do luxury, and the appearance of a rumoured gold Apple Watch – possibly the most-expensive Apple product to date – could provide the opportunity. Will we see red carpets in an Apple Store soon?
