Cash in a Hudl
Start-up watch: Think Prozone is the only sports performance analysis is play? Think again because Hudl is now seriously in the game after raising a whopping $72.5 million of funding in a finance round led by Accel. And that’s the first time Hudl has held out its hands for VC cash since rolling out nine years ago.
Now, Hudl is looking to grow its activities among youth and sports clubs, plus it is looking at major short-term expansion, and has eyes on China and India going forward.
OK, what are the numbers on Hudl’s sporting game-film activities? Well, the outfit - which was developed by a bunch of self-confessed nerds, marketers, designers and former jocks - claims more than 114,000 active teams and some 3.5 million unique users in 40 countries. There are currently 20 professional sports teams onboard. In short, Hudl has annual revenues of around $30 million. No moneyless start-up this.
