Governing with Google
The Silicon Messiahs are looking to lead us. Google’s moving on from Glass and Loon, and is seeking to help govern with the launch of the Google Government Innovation Lab. It’s a mobile-only initiative and the digital behemoth will appoint a score of team members to work on specific governmental challenges. Currently the Lab is in testing phase, but it is planned to open everything up to organisations for problem solving.
We’re presuming there’s more to this than the Google Apps for Government platform which seems to have a focus on bringing down costs and increasing productivity with less-than-exciting tools such as email, calendars and the cloud. The company says governments in 45 states have ‘gone Google’ with these apps already. For example, Google Apps enables the State or Maryland to execute mobile device management and data leak prevention across all agencies, as well as track every email and document. And naturally, there’s a big emphasis on security around this. But… does Google Apps also serve ads?
